Profile:

Tareq Y. Ismael researches the politics of the contemporary Arab world and its relations with the global community, state foreign policies including advanced democracies as well as those of the global south, as well as the role of social movements and their impact on political communication and change. His current projects include 'Iraqi activism and the green zone: from public protest to social movement' (funded by a SSHRC Insight Grant) as well as monograph length examinations of the evolution of Western 'regime change' directed at the Arab state system and the evolution of Arab nationalism as it finds expression in the twenty-first century.

He is the President of the International Centre for Contemporary Middle Eastern Studies (ICCMES); the Secretary General of the International Association of Middle Eastern Studies (IAMES); co-Editor of The Journal of Contemporary Iraq & the Arab World [https://www.intellectbooks.com/journal-of-contemporary-iraq-the-arab-world] and was founding co-editor of the International Journal of Contemporary Iraqi Studies.
