As part of its current curriculum review exercise, the Department of Political Science administered surveys to its political science and international relations majors to get their feedback on both programs. The response rate for each survey was excellent and the data will prove extremely useful.

Pablo Policzer was nominated and selected as a finalist for the 20th Annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards in  the Hadassah Ksienski Lifetime Achievement category. The Award Recipients were announced at the Gala held March 11, 2016 at the Westin Hotel.  The gala honours contributions and achievements of excellence of immigrants and refugees in the Calgary community.  Congratulations Pablo!

Congratulations to Nidhi Panwar, for winning a Mitacs Globalink Research Award! This award will help support her travel and
research related costs as well as provide a modest student stipend as Nidhi travels to the University of Delhi to begin research on her project, "Communalism and Terrorism in India".

The under-secretary-general Leah Schmidt (5th year, International Relations/Women's Studies student) and her team did another outstanding job of organizing the 42nd High School Model United Nations two day conference February 20-21, 2016.  This conference allows students a chance to understand a variety of current global issues that are drawn directly from the actual agenda of the United Nations.

Evan Wilson was listed in the Avenue Magazine's annual Top 40 Under 40.  Evan Wilson graduated in 2009 with an MA in the Department of Political Science under the supervision of Brenda O'Neill.

Congratulations to Nidhi Panwar, who has won a Shastri Student Internship Project in Aid award from the Governments of      Canada and India! Funding from this award will help support research at the School for International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in support of her MA thesis tentatively entitled “Communalism and Terrorism in India”. Nidhi is currently a first year MA student in the Department of Political Science working under the supervision of Dr. Gavin Cameron.

   Dr. Roberta Rice has been awarded a Knowledge Synthesis Grant as part of the Imagining Canada's Future Initiative of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. Dr. Rice will address the question: What effects will the quest for energy and natural resources have on our society and our position on the world stage?  Her focus will be on Aboriginal rights and natural resource development. Congratulations!

The Chilean Ministry of Education has determined that Pablo Policzer's book Los modelos del horror (LOM, 2015),
which is the translation of The Rise and Fall of Repression in Chile, should be part of Chile's school curriculum. They have bought over 1,100 copies, to be distributed throughout Chile's public schools, their libraries, and other educational venues.

Congratulations to Dr. Jim Keeley on winning a Faculty of Graduate Studies, My Supervisor Skills, GREAT Supervisor Award for 2015-2016!

Jim has provided outstanding mentorship to his many graduate students, including most recently Dr. Adam Cote, as well as invaluable support as a member of innumerable supervisory and examining committees over the years.
