Congratulations to Colby Georgsen, a political science major graduating this summer, who won the Best Overall category at this year's Faculty of Arts Student Association (FASA) Arts Research Symposium.

His research, based on a paper for Poli 471 entitled "Africa's Aversion to the International Criminal Court (ICC): Assessing Legal Intervention in the 21st Century," reaches beyond the rhetoric about the ICC's apparent unfair fixation on African situations and carefully explains why this asymmetry exists.

Eleven students from the University of Calgary Model UN Team attended the Carleton Model NATO Conference in Ottawa from February 23 to 26, 2017. Throughout the conference, University of Calgary students showed professionalism and extensive knowledge of NATO topics such as the Baltic Tripwire and European Ballistic Missile Defence, and ended up winning seven individual awards and the Dr. Lee Windsor Award for Best Delegation, acknowledging the University of Calgary as the best school in attendance. Congratulations to Davina Basse, Brandon Mackay-Temesy, Rushil Krishna, Omar Mufti, Briana Stallcup, Shresht Lamba, Hooman Hodaie, Brie Loughlin-Murray, Tina Yang, Anagh Katyayan, Alexis Passmore.

The Department of Political Science Award Committee is pleased to announce the nominees and winners of the 2015-2016 paper and and thesis competition. Congratulations to all the Nominees and Winners of the Political Science 2015-2016 Awards The Awards Luncheon was held on Tuesday, Sept 27th 12-2 pm in the Cassio Room, MacEwan Conference & Events Centre.

One political science student, Kalista Lepka, is profiled in the UToday will be convocating this afternoon with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  After graduating, her plans consist on law school specializing in aboriginal law and sustainable energy. As part of its current curriculum review exercise, the Department of Political Science administered surveys to its political science and international relations majors to get their feedback on both programs. The response rate for each survey was excellent and the data will prove extremely useful.

The under-secretary-general Leah Schmidt (5th year, International Relations/Women's Studies student) and her team did another outstanding job of organizing the 42nd High School Model United Nations two day conference February 20-21, 2016.  This conference allows students a chance to understand a variety of current global issues that are drawn directly from the actual agenda of the United Nations.

Fourth Year Political Science Honours Student, Holly Ellsworth-Clark has won the Gold Medal in the 2015 CIS Championships, Wrestling 82 kg class.

This year was the 41st High School Model United Nations competition which means it has been taking place since the early 1970s! The event continues to attract the very best from among the high schools in and around Calgary. It continues to grow and attract new schools. This year, there were over 385 registered participants from 25 schools.They are from both the Public School Board and Catholic School Board with a growing number of charter based schools.

The first Department of Political Science Annual Best Paper & Thesis awards were presented on September 12.

After careful consideration of the many good nominations, the Awards Committee is very pleased to announce the winners of the Department's 2013-14 essay and thesis competition:

The 2013-2014 nominations for the Department of Political Science's first annual paper and thesis competition are now complete. We had 20 superb papers and theses nominated from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014.

The winning papers and theses will be announced in September 2014 in an awards ceremony to be held in the Department of Political Science.
