SPECIAL PHD AND MA PROGRAM RECRUITMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR SEPTEMBER 2017 START DATE

In addition to our annual, general recruitment for our graduate program, the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary also offers the following special recruitment opportunities for students.

Dr. Jack Lucas

CITY POLITICS & GOVERNANCE        

MA Program Recruitment (up to 2 positions)

Dr. Jack Lucas is seeking to recruit up to two students into our graduate program at the MA level in the area of City Politics & Governance with an interest in urban public policy, comparative city governance, and/or urban political history.

These positions come with a special City Politics & Governance funding package of up to $24,000 for a MA student in Year I (our normal competitive funding package applies in Year II).

Apart from the regular opportunities to act as a teaching assistant, students in the City Politics and Governance position will have the chance to participate in research in the areas of urban democratic institutions, urban political history and public policy, and an interdisciplinary research initiative on the social and environmental implications of smart cities.

Dr. Daniel Voth

INDIGENOUS POLITICS         

PhD and/or MA Program Recruitment (up to 2 positions)

Dr. Roberta Rice and Dr. Daniel Voth are seeking to recruit up to two students into our graduate program at the PhD and/or MA level in the area of Indigenous Politics generally, and decolonization, political history, activism in response to extractive industry in Canada and/or Latin America, in particular.

These positions come with a special Indigenous Politics funding package of up to $30,000 for a PhD and $24,000 for a MA student in Year I (our normal competitive funding package applies in Year II for MAs and in Years II–IV for PhDs).

Apart from the regular opportunities to act as a teaching assistant, a student recruited into the Indigenous Politics graduate position may have the opportunity to collaborate on re-search in the areas of decolonization and resource governance innovation in Canada and/or Latin America.

POLITICAL ECONOMY

MA Program Recruitment (1 position)

Dr. Kim-Lee Tuxhorn is seeking to recruit one student into our graduate program at the MA level in the area of Political Economy with an interest in international / comparative economic policy, or economic organizations.

This position comes with a special Political Economy of up to $24,000 for a MA student in Year I (our normal competitive funding package applies in Year II).

Apart from the regular opportunities to act as a teaching assistant, students in the Political Economy graduate position may have the opportunity to collaborate on research in the area of international political economy and international organizations.

Dr. Melanee Thomas are seeking to recruit one student into our graduate program at the PhD or MA level in the area of Politics & Gender with an interest in gender and political behaviour.

This position comes with a special Politics & Gender funding package of up to $30,000 for a PhD and $24,000 for a MA student in Year I (our normal competitive funding package applies in Year II for MAs and in Years II–IV for PhDs).

Apart from the regular opportunities to act as a teaching assistant, students recruited into the Politics & Gender graduate position may have the opportunity to conduct research on women's gender and political behaviour.

The Politics & Gender graduate student will join a vibrant community of nationally and internationally known gender scholars in the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary.
